Amazon Acquires Creative Control of James Bond Franchise for $1bn

Amazon has acquired creative control of the James Bond franchise, a deal worth over $1 billion, according to sources. The British-American heirs, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, will retain some involvement with the franchise but have largely ceded control to Amazon.

Amazon MGM Studios announced the joint venture with Broccoli and Wilson, citing “creative control” as a key aspect of the agreement. This means that Amazon will be responsible for guiding future films and potentially TV spin-offs without needing approval from the original creators.

Former Bond star Daniel Craig expressed his admiration for Barbara and Michael, wishing them a long retirement and expressing hope to collaborate with them in the future. However, Valerie Leon, a former “Bond girl”, raised concerns about the franchise’s British roots being lost if Amazon takes over.

The deal marks the longest hiatus in James Bond film history, which has been four years since the release of No Time To Die in 2021.
