Amazon has released a new lower-priced version of its first color e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, at $250. The device is available in two models – the Signature Edition and the Kids Edition, which includes additional features such as one year of Amazon Kids Plus and a kid-friendly cover. Although both models share the same design, they differ in storage capacity and features. The Signature Edition has 32GB of storage and supports auto-adjusting lighting, while the new model has 16GB and manual lighting adjustment.
Initially, some users reported issues with a yellow tinge at the bottom of the display, but Amazon made adjustments to resolve the issue. However, the device received negative reviews due to its washed-out color experience compared to tablet LCDs. The resolution for color elements is reduced to 150 pixels per inch, affecting crispness. Despite this, having color brings comic books and images to life.
The new model is priced at $250, making it more affordable than its predecessor. Amazon’s decision comes after early reviews highlighted the device’s limitations.
