Amazon Ditches Little-Used Echo Feature for Cloud-Based Voice Recording

Amazon is ending its “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” feature, which allowed some users to prevent their voice commands from being sent to the company’s cloud. The feature, available on only three devices and used by less than 0.03% of customers, will be replaced with a new option that still prevents Alexa from saving voice recordings.

As of March 28, users who had been using the “Do Not Send” feature will automatically be opted into the new “Don’t save recordings” option. Amazon says it made this change to expand its Alexa capabilities with generative artificial intelligence features that rely on cloud processing. The company claims that its focus is still on protecting customers’ privacy and security, and that the new changes won’t affect users who want to keep their data secure.
