Amazon Drivers Authorize Strike over Union Contract Demands

Amazon drivers in Illinois have voted to authorize a strike as part of their fight for better wages, benefits, and workplace safety. The Teamsters, representing hundreds of workers at the DIL7 Amazon delivery station in Skokie, Ill., followed similar actions by Amazon drivers in New York City.

The union demands improved treatment from Amazon executives, who are seen as prioritizing profits over people. Workers claim they struggle to pay their bills despite being part of one of the world’s largest companies.

Amazon has ignored a deadline to negotiate a contract with the Teamsters, pushing workers closer to launching a strike that could disrupt holiday deliveries. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents 1.3 million workers globally, warns that Amazon will face consequences if it continues to break the law.
