A lawsuit has been filed against Amazon by Washington D.C.’s attorney general, alleging that the company is unfairly discriminating against two ZIP codes (20019 and 20020) in delivering packages. The affected areas have higher rates of violent crime compared to other parts of the city.
Amazon Prime customer Sere Mickel from Southeast D.C. claims she has been paying for expedited delivery but has not received it due to her location. She says Amazon trucks rarely come to her neighborhood, and deliveries take longer than expected.
The lawsuit demands that Amazon stop its alleged discriminatory practices, pay restitution to affected customers, and reduce crime in the affected areas. Amazon has denied the claims, stating that they adjusted their operations to protect delivery drivers’ safety and are transparent with customers about delivery times.
Mickel is one of thousands of customers in these ZIP codes who claim to have experienced slower delivery times compared to other areas. The company has offered to work with the attorney general’s office to improve safety in these areas but will proceed with the lawsuit.
