Amazon Kuiper Satellites Finally Revealed After Years of Secrecy

Amazon has finally given space enthusiasts and prospective customers a glimpse into its first production satellites for the Kuiper broadband network, which launched earlier this week. The 40-second video posted on social media shows the satellites separating from their launch vehicle in space.

The launch comes after years of secrecy surrounding Amazon’s satellite technology. When asked multiple times over the past two years if images would be released, the company responded with a “no comment.” This contrasts with SpaceX, which operates the Starlink network and has revealed basic information and photos about its satellites before launching them into space.

Amazon plans to launch 3,232 Kuiper satellites on more than 80 rockets, primarily from United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V and Vulcan rockets. The company aims to provide consumer broadband service from space, but is currently lagging behind SpaceX in the market.

The release of images and videos of the satellites comes as Amazon’s Project Kuiper continues to gain momentum. With the first operational satellites now in orbit, the company is one step closer to achieving its goal of providing global internet connectivity through space-based technology.
