Amazon Outage Blamed on AI Tool ‘Coincidence’

Amazon’s recent 13-hour Web Services outage was allegedly caused by one of its own AI tools, Kiro. Four people familiar with the matter report that the tool took autonomous actions after being deployed to make changes, leading to a prolonged disruption primarily affecting China. Amazon claims it was just a coincidence and blames user error, citing a user access control issue rather than an AI autonomy problem. This incident is not the first time Amazon’s AI tools have been involved in service disruptions, with similar outages occurring in recent months.
