Amazon’s cloud service provider, Amazon Web Services (AWS), experienced an outage that took many websites and apps offline for over two hours on Monday. The issue started at 3 a.m. Eastern and affected major banks, gaming sites, entertainment services, and popular platforms like WhatsApp, Coinbase, and Venmo.
As of 9:45 a.m. Eastern, Down Detector reported over eight million outage reports related to AWS, primarily from the US and Britain. Experts say the disruption highlights how reliant we are on a few major technology providers, which can lead to widespread disruptions when one service breaks down.
