Amazon is sending out exclusive invitations to a February event in New York City, where the company’s long-awaited smarter version of Alexa may be officially launched. The event will be hosted by Panos Panay and the Amazon Devices & Services team on February 26th.
While details about the announcement are scarce, the blue swirly logo behind “You’re invited” strongly suggests a connection to the new digital assistant. Further analysis of the five invitation designs reveals that they spell out the word “Alexa”.
This would be Panos Panay’s first major event since joining Amazon from Microsoft in 2023, replacing Dave Limp as head of Devices & Services. The company has been working on this improved Alexa powered by Large Language Models (LLMs) for some time and initially plans to make it free.
The absence of a traditional Fall hardware event in 2024 has led to speculation about Amazon’s readiness for the launch. The company announced its new, AI-driven Alexa in September 2023 but has yet to ship the improved digital assistant.
