Amazon has mandated that employees of its smart home businesses, including Ring, Blink, and Sidewalk, demonstrate their use of artificial intelligence (AI) when applying for promotions. The policy aims to reward “innovative thinking” and foster a culture of speed and efficiency.
According to an email obtained by Business Insider, Ring founder Jamie Siminoff requires employees to explain how they have applied AI in improving customer experience or increasing operational efficiency. Those seeking promotions must also describe specific AI projects they’ve worked on and the measurable impact achieved.
Management positions are also required to showcase how they used AI tools to achieve more with less, while reducing or not growing headcount. This change reflects a growing trend among tech companies to incorporate AI use into their talent-evaluation process.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy previously warned that AI may reduce the company’s workforce due to efficiency gains. However, Siminoff emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and improvement in line with Amazon’s “Day 1” culture.
