Amazon Scrubs Diversity Reference from Annual Report Amid Trump Era Backlash

Amazon removed a reference to workforce diversity from its annual 10-K report, following a broader corporate trend of reorienting diversity efforts amid changing political winds.

In the report’s “Human Capital” section, the company stated it focuses on investing in and hiring diverse talent. However, last year’s report included a more explicit commitment to investment and innovation, inclusion and diversity. The removal aligns with other companies, including Boeing, Meta, Walmart, Target, which have rolled back or disavowed their diversity programs.

President Trump’s executive order aims to deter DEI programs, instructing agencies to investigate up to nine large corporations for potentially discriminatory practices. Amazon has taken a more diplomatic approach, winding down outdated diversity programs and reiterating its commitment to inclusion.

Despite this, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently showed support for the Black Employee Network, praising the group on LinkedIn. This marks a contrast with other companies that have been more aggressive in rolling back diversity initiatives. The extent of Amazon’s current efforts remains unclear, but Jassy’s actions suggest the company is still committed to inclusivity.
