Amazon has informed Echo users that it will no longer allow them to process their voice recordings locally. Instead, all voice recordings will be sent to the company’s cloud.
The decision comes after Amazon expands its AI capabilities with generative features reliant on secure cloud processing. The company stated in an email that it would stop supporting the “Do Not Send Voice Recordings” feature on March 28.
Amazon has been addressing concerns about Alexa’s privacy implications, particularly following a $25 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over children’s privacy in 2023.
