Amazon workers are on strike on the final weekend before Christmas, but the company claims customers will still receive their packages on time. Logistics experts warn that some shipments may face minor delays due to the strike, which began in California, Georgia, Illinois, and New York. The good news for most customers is that Amazon has a large number of facilities, allowing them to ship products from other locations.
According to Satish Jindel, president of ShipMatrix, many packages will not be significantly delayed, with some potentially taking an extra day or two longer to arrive. However, some customers may notice delays in delivery times due to the strike. Amazon had hired 250,000 new workers for the holiday season, but only a small percentage have started working.
With fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, many shoppers are likely to be last-minute buyers, which could lead to increased demand on Amazon’s systems. According to the National Retail Federation, more than half of Americans are worried about delivery delays, and some shoppers plan to finish their shopping online rather than in stores.
