Amazon has acquired a live-action TV series based on the popular film franchise “Pacific Rim.” The prequel, set before the events of the original 2013 movie, will be written and executive produced by Eric Heisserer. The show is expected to explore the origin story of the Jaeger machines that battle giant monsters known as Kaiju.
The news comes after a reported development deal was announced last August at Legendary Entertainment, which previously revealed the series’ existence. Variety was the first to report on this TV adaptation. “Pacific Rim: The Black” anime series aired on Netflix from 2021 to 2022, also drawing inspiration from the original franchise. The live-action prequel’s exact plot details remain unknown, but it is expected to be a thrilling addition to the “Monsterverse,” where Kaiju are portrayed as relentless threats.
