Amazon to Develop ‘Pacific Rim’ Live-Action Series

Amazon has acquired the rights to develop a live-action “Pacific Rim” TV series, with Legendary Television and Amazon MGM Studios partnering on the project. The show is set to serve as a prequel to the film franchise and will be written by Eric Heisserer under his Chronology banner.

Heisserer, known for his work on Netflix’s “Shadow and Bone,” received an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay for “Arrival” in 2017. The first film in the franchise was directed by Guillermo del Toro and grossed over $400 million at the global box office. A sequel, “Pacific Rim Uprising,” was released in 2018.

The show’s plot details are being kept under wraps, but it is rumored to explore new storylines within the Pacific Rim universe. Fans of the franchise can look forward to a potential return of the giant monster-kaiju battles and the human-Jaeger fighting robots that make up the core of the series.

Heisserer will be joined by Amazon MGM Studios in bringing this project to life, with Legendary Television handling production under their first-look TV deal. This latest development marks another significant partnership for the studios, following recent announcements about “Monarch” and other projects.
