AMD has confirmed that its next-gen RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, including the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, will launch in March. The company’s David McAfee stated that both hardware and software are looking great for the upcoming GPU lineup.
Initially, AMD had announced a Q1 2025 launch window for the RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, but it appears that the company has decided to move up its timeline. Several retailers were still listing January 23rd-25th as availability or pre-order dates, despite this being contradicted by AMD.
The reason behind the change in launch window is unclear, but rumors suggest that AMD may have revised its product positioning to offer more competitive pricing and improved supply chain management. The Radeon RX 9070 XT is expected to perform similarly to NVIDIA’s RTX 4070 Ti or RTX 4080, while the Radeon RX 9000 series as a whole could potentially surpass these levels of performance.
AMD will also be bundling its high-end Ryzen 9 9000X3D CPUs with the GPU launch. Additionally, the company is introducing FSR 4, which competes directly with NVIDIA’s DLSS 4. While AMD has touted ML-based models and their exclusivity with RDNA 4-based GPUs, it remains to be seen whether they will extend support to older hardware.
Despite these developments, AMD remains a strong contender in the graphics market, particularly in the high-end/mainstream segment. The company’s Radeon RX 9000 GPU lineup is expected to offer improved performance and features, including frame generation support for both new and older hardware.
