AMD’s next-generation GPU, the RX 8800 XT, has been spotted in Seasonic’s online calculator. The listing reveals the GPU will draw 220 watts and use dual 8-pin power connectors. While it’s possible this is just a placeholder, given AMD’s upcoming release schedule for RDNA 4 graphics cards, which are expected to launch in early 2025.
Leakers claim the RX 8800 XT could be AMD’s flagship offering, with performance comparable to an RTX 4080 Super. However, AMD has emphasized its focus on ray tracing, an area where it aims to catch up with Nvidia. With CEO Lisa Su stating that RDNA 4 delivers significantly higher ray tracing performance and adds new AI capabilities, skepticism is warranted, but the hype surrounding the RX 8800 XT is real.
As AMD prepares to announce its next-gen GPUs at CES in January, a healthy dose of speculation surrounds the RX 8800 XT. Will it be able to bridge the gap between AMD and Nvidia in ray tracing performance? Only time will tell.
