AMD has confirmed its Radeon RX 9070 graphics cards will launch on February 28, with some speculating they could hit shelves as early as March 6. The upcoming mid-range GPU showdown is set to pitting the RX 9070 against Nvidia’s RTX 5070. However, there are concerns over the power supply requirements for certain models of the RX 9070 XT.
According to leaked information and AMD spokesperson Frank Azor, some variants of the top-end RX 9070 XT model may require a 900W power supply unit (PSU), sparking fears that users will need substantial upgrades to their PC’s power supply. However, other sources suggest that lower-power models will be available with reduced requirements.
In response to concerns, AMD has reassured consumers that there will be “plenty” of RX 9070 XT cards with 8-pin power connectors, allowing for easier upgrading and minimizing the need for substantial power supply upgrades.
The launch date of March 6 seems to align with Nvidia’s announcement of RTX 5070 on March 5, creating a mid-range GPU showdown that could be an interesting comparison between AMD’s RX 9070 and Nvidia’s RTX 5070 GPUs.
