AMD Ryzen Z2 A Confirmed as Aerith Plus for Steam Deck 2

AMD has confirmed its latest processor, the Ryzen Z2 A, is indeed the “Aerith Plus” codename previously leaked by shipping manifests. The product page reveals the Ryzen Z2 A’s product code matches that of the Aerith Plus, seen in NBD shipping logs.

The Ryzen Z2 A boasts the same Zen 2 architecture as its predecessor on the Steam Deck and integrated RDNA 2 graphics. It features 4 cores and 8 threads, operating within a 6-20W TDP range. The processor’s boost clock is expected to be around 3.8 GHz.

The Ryzen Z2 A will power entry-level handhelds, with its slowest specifications fitting the Steam Deck 2’s requirements. In contrast, AMD’s new “Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme” chip, featuring a dedicated NPU for AI operations, is designed for high-end handhelds.

Multiple APUs from the Z2 lineup are expected in upcoming budget and gaming handheld devices.
