AMD is expected to release its top-tier RDNA 4 GPU, the Radeon RX 8800 XT, in December, which could position it as a strongly positioned mainstream product. According to rumors from Chiphell Forum member Zhang Zhonghao, who has provided accurate information on AMD’s upcoming GPUs in the past, the RX 8800 XT will feature significant performance upgrades over its predecessor, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
The RX 8800 XT is said to consume up to 25% less power than the RX 7900 XTX, with an estimated power draw of around 250-270W. This puts it in a similar power consumption bracket as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and its SUPER sibling. In terms of performance, the RX 8800 XT is expected to deliver a 45% uplift in ray tracing performance in games like Resident Evil 4 Remake.
The AMD Radeon RX 8800 XT will also match or surpass the performance of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4080 SUPER in rasterization. This could lead to an interesting battle for mainstream gaming supremacy between AMD’s RX 8800 series cards and NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 cards.
Pricing for the RX 8800 XT is expected to be around $500 US, which would make it a highly competitive option for PC gamers. With its improved performance, power efficiency, and lower pricing, the Radeon RX 8800 XT has the potential to revolutionize mainstream gaming.
