American Airlines Flight Diverted to Rome After Bomb Threat

An American Airlines flight from New York to India was diverted to Rome on Sunday due to a “suspected bomb threat.” However, after further investigation, officials deemed the threat as “non-credible.”

According to Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport officials, security checks were conducted on the plane and its passengers before landing. The flight, which carried 199 passengers and 15 crew members, was expected to land in New Delhi but was instead diverted to Rome.

The airport said those who are cleared to enter Europe have been taken to nearby hotels, while those who are not have been taken to designated airport lounges. American Airlines stated that the flight will remain in Rome overnight for required crew rest.

Law enforcement and fire personnel were on the tarmac after the plane landed, per protocol. The airline reassured customers of their top priority being safety and security, thanking them for their understanding as this story continues to develop.
