An American Airlines flight from New York to New Delhi was diverted to Rome due to a bomb threat reported over the Caspian Sea. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, carrying about 200 passengers and crew, landed at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome after being warned of the threat.
According to Flight Emergency site and airport sources, security checks will be performed on the passengers and crew as soon as they leave the plane. American Airlines stated that the flight “cleared to re-depart” but would stay overnight for required crew rest before continuing to Delhi as soon as possible tomorrow.
Passengers reported a mix of emotions during the diversion, with some feeling stressed when fighter jets were announced to escort the plane to Rome. However, once on the ground, passengers underwent additional security screenings and waited for their checked baggage to be processed.
Despite the initial concern, the airport operations continued normally, with airport sources stating that the flight’s diversion did not disrupt normal airport activities.
