A US-bound flight from New York was diverted to Rome due to a reported bomb threat on Sunday. The aircraft, operated by American Airlines, was heading to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi when the threat was received via email.
The airline confirmed that a bomb threat had been made but later deemed it as unfounded. Italian Air Force fighter jets escorted the plane to Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport, where it landed safely.
There were 199 passengers and 15 crew members on board the flight. Indian authorities insisted that the aircraft be checked out before landing in New Delhi. The airline has assured that safety and security are their top priorities.
