An American Airlines flight, American 1665, operated on an Airbus A321, made an unexpected return to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning. The aircraft was heading to Charlotte Douglas International Airport at 8:20 a.m. local time when it reported “smoke coming from the left engine.”
No injuries were reported, according to the airport spokesperson, and the flight taxied to the gate under its own power after landing. American Airlines confirmed there were 153 passengers on board and six crew members.
The maintenance team found no evidence of a fire in the engine but will be taking the aircraft out of service for evaluation. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. This story is developing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
