Americans Overwhelmingly Support Returning to Moon, Mars Exploration

A recent CBS News poll reveals that a majority of Americans favor the United States’ return to the moon and eventual journey to Mars. Approximately two-thirds of respondents expressed support for these endeavors, while a third did not.

Younger Americans are particularly enthusiastic about space exploration, possibly due to their desire to witness it firsthand during their lifetimes. Interestingly, views on past moon landings in 1969 remain unchanged, with most believing the mission was worth it and fewer thinking it wasn’t.

The reasons behind this public support include the perceived benefits of space exploration to national pride and technological advancements that benefit everyone. The poll, conducted among a nationally representative sample of 2,404 U.S. adults, found that the survey’s margin of error is ±2.6 points.
