As the US celebrates Independence Day, a new report highlights the importance of ethanol in reducing our reliance on foreign oil and saving consumers billions of dollars at the pump. According to energy expert George Hoekstra, using ethanol results in more than $50 billion in annual fuel savings for American drivers, equivalent to about 39 cents per gallon.
Ethanol is a high-octane, low-cost fuel component blended into nearly every gallon of gasoline sold today. Producing it from traditional petroleum refining methods would be four times as expensive. By blending ethanol into our fuel, we shield consumers from global energy market disruptions and strengthen US energy security.
Wisconsin, with its nine ethanol plants producing 32% of the state’s corn, plays a crucial role in delivering this protection. The industry supports rural vitality, national energy goals, and generates significant revenue for local communities. Higher ethanol blends, such as E15, can yield even greater savings per gallon for consumers, expanding across the country.
Ethanol is an economic, environmental, and strategic asset that helps build a more resilient energy future for every American family.
