Americans Spend an Average of 205 Times Per Day on Their Phones

According to a survey by Reviews.org, the average American checks their phone approximately 205 times per day. This represents a 42.3% increase from last year’s rate, when people checked their phones around 144 times daily.

Some common ways people spend their phone time include waking up within the first 10 minutes to check their devices (80.6%), using their phone on the toilet (65.7%), or texting someone in the same room (53.7%). Notably, 76% of people check their phones within five minutes of receiving a notification.

There is also a notable generational divide when it comes to phone usage. Gen Z spends the most time on their phones, with an average of six hours and 18 minutes per day, followed closely by Millennials at six hours and two minutes. In contrast, the Silent Generation averages only one hour and 16 minutes per day.

Interestingly, while there is ongoing debate about whether excessive phone use constitutes addiction, some worrying behaviors are associated with it. Despite a decrease in reported addiction rates, there remains concern about the impact of excessive phone usage on individuals. For those looking to cut down on screen time or establish healthier phone habits, adjusting settings and seeking professional guidance may be necessary.
