Amtrak Cuts Service Amid Freezing Temperatures on Northeast Corridor

Amtrak temporarily suspended service between Philadelphia and New York due to downed overhead wires amid freezing temperatures in the region. The service disruption affects customers traveling along the Northeast Corridor, with delays expected of 30-60 minutes.

As of Sunday, two out of four tracks have been restored to regular service, allowing trains to move at reduced speeds. However, NJ Transit trains on the Atlantic City Rail Line between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia’s 30th Street are suspended in both directions due to the same issue.

The downed wires could cause travel disruptions throughout the holiday season, with the region experiencing temperatures 20 degrees below normal. This includes high temperatures reaching only the 20s and lows expected in single-digits and low-teens.
