Amtrak has reached a record-breaking milestone of carrying 32.8 million passengers in fiscal year 2024, a 15% increase from the previous year. The company aims to double its ridership to 66 million passengers annually by 2040.
To address challenges posed by the pandemic, Amtrak invested $4.5 billion into infrastructure and fleet transformation. The company also received over $10 billion in federal grant funds to support future building projects.
Upcoming plans include developing new trains, bridges, and tunnels, such as replacing the 151-year-old Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel. Amtrak is expanding its network with new train routes and upgraded stations across various regions.
Budget-conscious travelers can expect more affordable options like Flex Fare and Value Fare tickets. Premium passengers on Acela trains will enjoy upgraded dining with sustainably sourced ingredients and local brands.
Amtrak’s CEO Stephen Gardner stated that the company is committed to meeting growing demand for efficient travel options, while President Roger Harris emphasized the importance of investments in new equipment, expanded service, and critical infrastructure to elevate the customer experience nationwide.
