Andrew Cuomo Teases NYC Mayoral Bid at Senior Valentine’s Day Event

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo sparked speculation about his potential mayoral bid when he attended a Valentine’s Day party for seniors at the Johnson Houses Community Center in East Harlem. In a video posted on social media, Cuomo addressed a room full of older women and received a standing ovation.

Cuomo said, “We are New Yorkers and we are New York tough!” and pledged to protect voters. The event was hosted by Assembly Member Eddie Gibbs, who invited Cuomo and other elected officials, including Mayor Eric Adams’ potential challengers.

Gibbs claimed that Cuomo’s appearance did not amount to an endorsement, but he acknowledged the former governor’s popularity among seniors. “I like Andrew a lot, he’s my guy,” Gibbs said. Cuomo’s visit was seen as a sign that he is preparing for a possible mayoral campaign, despite his resignation from governor in 2021 after allegations of sexual harassment.

The party featured a video edited with inspirational violin music and included clips of Cuomo hugging women, shaking hands, and taking photos with them. A woman at the event was heard yelling to Cuomo, “We miss you!” The event’s attendance list is not publicly available, but it includes several other elected officials running for public office in New York City.
