Android 16 is finally bringing a feature long overdue to the competition: Live Updates. This new notification type helps you keep track of ongoing notifications from apps like ride-sharing services, food delivery apps, and navigation tools.
First revealed in the Android 16 beta launch, this feature aims to provide real-time updates on activities such as Uber status, food deliveries, or GPS tracking. Although fitness tracking is still speculative at this point, Google’s introduction of the ProgressStyle notification template signals a promising start.
A live demonstration shows that with Live Updates, notifications from food delivery apps can update in real time, allowing you to track your order’s progress. This functionality is reminiscent of the popular Domino’s Tracker, making it an ideal fit for this new feature.
Although no official list of participating apps has been announced, popular candidates include Lyft, Uber, and UberEats, as well as fitness apps and the Domino’s Tracker itself. With its introduction, Android 16 takes a step closer to catching up with iPhone’s existing similar feature.
