Android Auto’s Kids’ Games Are a Terrible Idea

Google recently added “teacher-approved” kids’ games to Android Auto, but I’m not convinced they’re a good idea. As someone who relies on the feature for entertainment and navigation, I don’t see the need for child-friendly content.

The new games are limited, with only one suitable for older children – Marvel HQ: Super Hero Fun. Even then, its mechanics are better suited for a smaller screen like a smartphone. The lack of lag-free gaming experience is frustrating, and the high price of unlocking special features in Disney Coloring World was a major turn-off.

The main concern is that kids will associate the car’s dashboard with focus-consuming games, which could negatively affect their driving skills when they eventually learn how to drive. The games also seem designed for devices that are easily accessible to children, making them less practical than simply handing over a phone or tablet.

Google should prioritize features that improve the actual driving experience, such as YouTube playback support and voice navigation reliability, rather than introducing child-friendly content that may not be beneficial in the long run.
