Google has introduced a new setting in the latest Android Canary release (2510) that allows users to flip their navigation button layout. Previously, most devices had a standardized Back and Recents button position, but Samsung phones often used the reverse layout. This change aims to reduce friction for users switching between devices with different button orders.
The new Button order menu offers two layouts: Back, Home, Recents and Recents, Home, Back. By moving the buttons to familiar positions, users can rely on established muscle memory, leading to faster navigation and fewer mistakes. This setting will also give users the option to choose their preferred button layout based on hand dominance.
For Samsung users planning to switch to a Pixel or left-handed individuals who prefer one-handed use, this setting is particularly useful. While it won’t be included in the December Android 16 QPR2 update, it’s likely to arrive with the March Android 16 QPR3 release next year.
