Anker Issues Global Recall of Power Banks Due to Fire Risk

Anker, a leading manufacturer of power banks, has issued another global recall for five external chargers due to overheating and melting, posing a potential fire risk. This is not an isolated incident; the company had previously recalled over 1.15 million units of a separate power bank in June, citing a similar issue.

Anker’s new recall was triggered after implementing enhanced quality assurance protocols for its products. The company attributed the fault to “a single vendor” supplying power cells to some of its products. However, it did not reveal the vendor’s name or what testing led to the discovery.

The affected models include Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W), Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W), Anker MagGo Power Bank (10,000mAh, 7.5W), Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W), and Anker PowerCore 10000 Power Bank.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission had previously noted that the Model A1263 power bank resulted in 19 reported incidents, including two minor burn injuries. Affected owners can submit a claim on Anker’s recall page, providing their serial number and a picture of their device, to receive a replacement external battery or a gift card.

This latest recall follows previous actions by Anker, including the recall of 2,100 units of its PowerCore 10K models in October due to similar overheating issues. The company had also recalled nearly 69,000 SoundCore and PowerConf Bluetooth speakers last December over overheating concerns.
