Celebrity chef and Food Network star Anne Burrell has died, with her cause of death ruled a suicide due to acute intoxication. Burrell was found unconscious at her New York City home on June 17. According to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner, the effects of diphenhydramine, ethanol, cetirizine, and amphetamine led to her death.
Burrell, who hosted the hit show “Worst Cooks in America” for 27 seasons, was performing an improv show at The Second City New York the evening before she was found. Witnesses described her as being in great spirits and said she seemed fine when they left the show.
A spokesperson from the Food Network confirmed Burrell’s death, stating that “Anne was the hugely popular and fan favorite host of Food Network’s hit show, ‘Worst Cooks in America.'” The cause of Burrell’s death is now being attributed to acute intoxication, according to the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
