Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis suffered a non-contact left adductor strain in his debut game with the team against the Houston Rockets on Saturday, and is expected to miss multiple weeks, according to ESPN.
The injury occurred during the third quarter, forcing Davis to exit the court under his own power. Despite downplaying the seriousness of the injury, Davis did not return to play. The Mavericks’ big man scored 26 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and dished out seven assists in 31 minutes before being removed from the game.
The news comes after a tumultuous home opener for the Mavericks, with fans protesting the team’s decision to trade superstar Luka Dončić. The protest outside American Airlines Center was sparked by the trade and resulted in security measures being taken ahead of the game.
With Davis out, he will be missing the 2025 NBA All-Star Game due to a calf strain from Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The injury has raised concerns about the team’s depth and ability to overcome key players’ absences.
Davis’ departure has also left him with a cold reception from fans, who were not as welcoming as expected given his reputation. It remains to be seen when Davis will receive another warm welcome in Dallas.
