Anthropic Raises $3.5 Billion at $61.5 Billion Post-Money Valuation

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has raised $3.5 billion in its latest funding round, valuing the company at $61.5 billion post-money. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and included other investors such as Salesforce Ventures, Cisco Investments, Fidelity Management & Research Co., General Catalyst, D1 Capital Partners, and Jane Street.

Founded by former OpenAI research executives, Anthropic launched its generative AI chatbot Claude in March 2023, which has gained significant popularity among businesses adopting the technology for sales, marketing, and customer service functions. The company plans to use the latest funding to advance its development of next-generation AI, expand its compute capacity, and accelerate its international expansion.

Anthropic’s revenue has grown exponentially, reaching $1 billion annually, with a 10-fold year-over-year increase. The company’s clients include large enterprises such as Zoom, Snowflake, Pfizer, Thomson Reuters, and Novo Nordisk. The latest funding also fuels Amazon’s Alexa+, bringing Claude to millions of households and Prime members.

The generative AI market is expected to reach $1 trillion in revenue within a decade, with major players like Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta backing startups with significant investments. Amazon has invested over $12 billion in Anthropic since 2022, solidifying its position as the company’s largest investor.
