Anthropic’s Valuation Soars to $61.5 Billion After $3.5 Billion Funding Round

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic has seen its valuation skyrocket to $61.5 billion after securing a massive $3.5 billion funding round, tripling the company’s initial value. The surge in demand for AI models and agents has driven this boom, with Anthropic’s business growing rapidly.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI research executives, Anthropic aims to build “safer” AI models that can assist humans in complex tasks, such as navigating the internet and completing text-based operations. The company’s Claude family of generative AI models has gained significant traction among enterprise customers.

The latest funding round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with other investors including Salesforce Ventures, Fidelity Management & Research, and General Catalyst. Anthropic plans to use the funds to develop more intelligent AI systems, expand its computing capacity, and enhance research programs.

With this investment, Anthropic is now rivaling OpenAI in terms of valuation, with both companies valued over $300 billion. Amazon has also invested heavily in Anthropic, committing an additional $4 billion in November 2024, bringing the total to $8 billion.

Analysts remain optimistic about Amazon’s stock trajectory, with a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks and an average price target of $268.91 implying 31.2% upside potential from current levels.
