A Texas couple, members of the Mennonite community, lost their 6-year-old child to measles. Despite this tragedy, they continue to advocate for avoiding vaccinations and instead opting for untested treatments from a holistic clinic in Lubbock, Texas.
The parents said their other four children suffered from milder cases of measles due to these treatments, which include cod liver oil, vitamin C, and steroids. They believe that the clinic’s unproven remedies helped them recover quickly.
However, experts argue that access to vaccines is still the best defense against measles infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that vaccination remains effective in preventing measles.
The claim that unproven treatments can save lives from measles is not supported by scientific evidence. Research indicates that one in five unvaccinated children with measles are taken to hospital, suggesting a higher risk of severe illness.
In an interview with Children’s Health Defense, the couple made claims without scientific backing, such as the idea that measles boosts the immune system and protects against cancer. While research suggests this is not true, the parents’ views on vaccination have raised concerns among health experts.
