Apple Abandons N107 AR Glasses Project Amid Cost Concerns

Apple has canceled its project to develop augmented reality glasses that can be paired with its devices, citing struggles to produce technology at an attractive price point. The N107 project, code-named for its supposed release year, aimed to create normal-looking glasses with added displays and a connection to Macs. However, Apple reportedly encountered issues with battery life, particularly when initially testing them with iPhones.

The decision marks another setback for the tech giant in its efforts to enter the AR market. Competitors like Meta have already made significant strides, with the recent unveiling of its Orion AR glasses last fall. Meanwhile, Apple’s Vision Pro headset has faced limited adoption due to its steep $3,499 price tag. The company paused work on the Vision Pro 2 earlier this year to focus on creating a more affordable model.

The cancellation of N107 comes as Apple appears to be falling further behind its competitors in the AR market.
