Apple Adds More Carriers to RCS Support, Leaving Google Fi Behind

Apple has expanded its support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) on iPhone with the latest iOS update, adding more carriers to the list. However, this development does not apply to all users, particularly those on Google Fi.

In September, we reported that Google was waiting on Apple to enable RCS interoperability for iPhone users on Fi. While Apple has acknowledged RCS support on various carriers, it remains unclear when or if Google Fi will be included in the updated list.

Currently, supported carriers include AT&T, Boost Mobile, Cricket, FirstNet, and several others. However, notable omissions are Mint Mobile, Ultra Mobile, and Google Fi itself.

The absence of Google Fi from the RCS-supported carriers list is particularly concerning, as it raises questions about Apple’s willingness to enable interoperability for iPhone users on this popular carrier. The lack of mention for Google Fi in the updated page also casts doubt on the possibility of support being implemented soon.

In a move that could improve messaging experiences between Android and iPhone devices, RCS brings better group chats, improved media quality, typing indicators, and more. With Apple’s expanded support, users can expect a more seamless experience when communicating with friends or family who use Android devices.
