Apple and Corning to Make 100% iPhone and Apple Watch Cover Glass in US for First Time

US tech giant Apple has announced a significant partnership with Corning, the world’s leading manufacturer of specialty glass. The two companies will invest $2.5 billion at Corning’s Harrodsburg, Kentucky facility to produce all cover glass for iPhone and Apple Watch units sold worldwide. This marks the first time that 100% of the cover glass on these devices will be made in the US.

Corning is expanding its production line to create the largest smartphone glass manufacturing plant globally, with a dedicated workforce expected to increase by 50%. The facility will also house an innovative research center, where Apple and Corning engineers will work together to develop advanced materials for future products.

This investment is part of Apple’s broader commitment to invest $600 billion in the US economy over the next four years. The company aims to incentivize global companies to manufacture more components locally, with a focus on supporting American innovation and job creation. By working with Corning, Apple is furthering its efforts to build a robust supply chain that promotes domestic manufacturing.

Apple’s CEO Tim Cook praised the partnership, saying it showcases the “power of American manufacturing” and highlights the company’s commitment to investing in US-based facilities. The move comes after significant investments made by Apple at Corning’s Kentucky operations since 2017, with billions more spent on glass manufactured in the country.

This partnership is another example of Apple’s long history of supporting US suppliers and driving innovation. With a focus on hiring an additional 20,000 employees in the US over the next four years, Apple aims to create new opportunities for American workers while further solidifying its position as a leader in US-based manufacturing.
