Apple is finally adding a highly anticipated feature to its iPhone: eSIM transfer between iPhone and Android devices with the release of iOS 26. This change will make transferring your mobile number to a different operating system easier, without needing to call your carrier.
The new feature allows users to transfer an eSIM directly within system settings, eliminating the need for manual processes or QR codes.
Apple is collaborating with Google on this feature, and it’s already being tested by Reddit users. Although not all eSIM plans are supported yet, the US Mobile Dark Star eSIM plan will work seamlessly with iOS 26.
When adding a new eSIM to an iPhone on iOS 26, users can now see a “Transfer From Android” option. Tapping this option generates a QR code that an Android phone can scan to start the transfer process.
This two-way compatibility is a game-changer for users who frequently switch platforms or need to test different ecosystems without administrator barriers.
The ability to transfer eSIMs between iOS and Android devices marks a significant step towards user-first design, providing more flexibility for mobile connectivity. With ongoing improvements expected until its complete public release, cross-platform eSIM transfers are finally becoming a reality.
