Apple Ceases Production of First-Generation Vision Pro Headset

Apple has reportedly stopped producing its first-generation Vision Pro headset, citing reduced demand and production cuts earlier this year. The company had scaled back production in the early summer, indicating it now has enough headsets to meet demand until 2025.

The Vision Pro faced weak demand due to limited content and a high price point of $3,499. Suppliers produced around 500,000-600,000 units, with some factories suspending production as far back as May based on low sales forecasts.

Apple told its assembler Luxshare in November that it needed to wind down production, but the company may still resume production if sales pick up. The company has also suspended work on an original second-generation Vision Pro for at least a year, focusing instead on developing a lower-cost headset with a projected production run of four million units.

Despite this, there are indications that Apple could release a limited update to the first-generation Vision Pro with new features like a chip upgrade. Mark Gurman has suggested that such an update may be launched between fall 2025 and spring 2026, potentially reusing components from the original headset.
