Former Google executive John Giannandrea advocated for Google’s Gemini chatbot over OpenAI’s ChatGPT for Apple’s first chatbot integration with Siri last year. Despite concerns about ChatGPT’s data protection, Apple announced the integration in 2024 and made it available to users in December. The feature allows users to tap ChatGPT when Siri can’t answer a question. In preliminary talks, Apple is exploring Perplexity as an alternative to ChatGPT for Siri and Safari browser search.
