Apple has taken a rare stance against an adult content app available in the AltStore PAL app store, following changes in the European Union that allow independent stores to operate with reduced scrutiny. The app, Hot Tub, was launched on February 3 and provides access to hardcore porn videos.
Despite marketing suggesting approval, Apple strongly opposed the app, citing safety concerns for EU users, especially children. “We are deeply concerned about the safety risks that hardcore porn apps of this type create,” Apple stated in a company-issued statement. The company emphasized it does not approve the app and would never offer it on its own platform.
The app’s inclusion of a “teen” channel with content from Pornhub and funding by Epic Games, which operates the Epic Games Store without carrying porn apps, has raised eyebrows. Developer Riley Testut describes the app as “ethically made and free to use.” As the EU’s App Store rules differ from those in other countries, governments worldwide are closely watching this situation.
