Apple Delays MacBook Pros, Eyes New iPhone Release

Apple has reportedly delayed the launch of new MacBook Pros to 2026, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The move is seen as a sign that Apple may be taking it easier with its relentless yearly release schedule. A new MacBook Pro design is unlikely, and the company will stick with last year’s M5 chip configuration.

The delay follows Apple’s recent trend of launching new MacBooks in the first few months of the year, only to offer minor updates later in the fall. Gurman suggests that new MacBook Pros will feature an OLED display, but it won’t arrive until 2027.

In related news, Apple is set to release new iPad Airs with M3 chips as early as March or April 2026. The company may also upgrade its iPad Pro models to use the M5 chip and release them in October.

On the iPhone front, Apple is working on a $600 iPhone 17e that could potentially nix the notch for good. However, the company’s Mac sales have slumped in recent months, and changing the release timing doesn’t necessarily make any device more enticing.

Intel’s new CEO Lip-Bu Tan has reportedly told staff that the company is no longer in the top 10 semiconductor companies compared to 30 years ago. Intel is cutting thousands of workers across all sectors, and the situation suggests a desperate attempt to compete with Nvidia’s dominance of the AI training chip market.

While Apple may be taking a break from its typical release schedule, it’s unlikely that this move will change consumer expectations for incremental updates in the future.
