Apple plans to release its next-generation M5 chip in the MacBook Pro this fall, according to Bloomberg. The M5 chip is expected to feature an enhanced ARM architecture and will be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3-nanometer process technology.
The M5 series will provide significant advancements over its predecessor, the M4 chip, mainly through the adoption of TSMC’s System on Integrated Chip (SoIC) technology. This technology allows for vertical stacking of chips, enhancing thermal management and reducing electrical leakage.
Although Apple has not yet announced an official release date for the M5 MacBook Pro, it is expected to launch updates to the Mac Studio and Mac Pro using its current generation M4 chip series around June 2025.
In other news, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects iOS 18.4 beta to be released by next week, which will include new features and changes. Additionally, Apple is reportedly exploring the idea of showing search ads in the Apple Maps app and has teased an upcoming iPhone SE announcement for February 19.
