Apple is facing a lawsuit alleging it falsely advertised its “Apple Intelligence” features on the iPhone 16, despite knowing it couldn’t deliver them as promised. The US District Court in San Jose has filed the complaint, which claims that Apple misled millions of consumers into buying new phones based on non-existent AI-powered capabilities.
The delayed features include more personalized Siri and actions across apps, but Apple had previously said they would arrive later than expected. The company admitted to the delay earlier this month and added a disclaimer to its website last week. A new team lead for Apple Intelligence was also appointed this week.
The plaintiffs claim that by touting non-existent features, Apple gained an unfair advantage over competitors and deceived consumers. They have requested class action status and monetary compensation for those who purchased Apple Intelligence-equipped phones.
