Apple is reportedly working on a foldable 18.8-inch iPad with a nearly invisible crease, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The device would essentially be like two iPad Pros side-by-side. This marks the latest iteration of rumors surrounding a folding iPad, which have been circulating for years.
Gurman’s claims suggest that the foldable iPad will run on an advanced version of iPadOS, capable of running macOS apps by 2028. This could provide a unique value proposition, as Macs and iPads are already compatible with each other in terms of app support.
However, Gurman also confirms that a foldable iPhone is still in development, but not expected before 2026. He cites internal Apple display roadmap leaks, which suggest the release of an 18.8-inch foldable iPad in 2028 and OLED MacBook Pros in 2026, followed by a MacBook Air OLED update in 2027.
